Welcome Message

Welcome to the Alabama Department of Public Safety’s Web site. We appreciate your visiting the department’s home page and encourage you to explore this site to learn more about the Department of Public Safety and the many ways its employees serve Alabama.

You’ll quickly find that the Department of Public Safety is a full-fledged, statewide law enforcement agency comprising six divisions: Administrative, Alabama Bureau of Investigation, Driver License, Highway Patrol, Protective Services, and Service...(more)

In response to acts of terrorism committed against the United States, and in an effort to ensure the safety of citizens, Congress passed the REAL-ID Act of 2005. To comply with that act, the Alabama Department of Public Safety has developed a driver license and identification program called STAR ID (“Secure, Trusted, And Reliable").

Alabama veterans may have the option of displaying proof of military service on their driver licenses beginning on May 1st, 2013.  Click here for more information.

Buckle Up, Alabama!

Troopers and local law enforcement agencies throughout Alabama work together to strictly enforce the state's seatbelt and child restraint laws throughout the year. During late May and early June of each year, the agencies boost these efforts during the annual Click It or Ticket campaign. Click Here for media information related to this initiative.
