Gaorge F. McMinn

George F. McMinn joined the Alabama Department of Public Safety in 1967 as a state trooper assigned to the Highway Patrol Division. He was promoted to corporal in 1975. In 1981, he transferred to Executive Protection, assigned to the attorney general. He returned to Highway Patrol in 1982. In 1983 he was re-appointed to Executive Protection assigned to the speaker, and in 1987 to the lieutenant governor. He was promoted to sergeant in 1989.
On April 27, 1993, Governor Jim Folsom appointed McMinn assistant director of Public Safety. Governor Folsom then appointed McMinn director of the department June 1, 1993, following Col. Mark Peevy's retirement.
A native of Cullman he holds an associate of arts degree from Calhoun State College and a bachelor of science degree from Athens State College. McMinn has more than 28 years of military service, including eight and one-half years active duty with the U.S. Air Force before joining Public Safety. He retired from the Alabama National Guard with more than 20 years of service.
