Lieutenant Colonel F. A. Bingham

Lt. Col. F.A. “Bubba” Bingham is a 34-year veteran with the Department of Public
Safety, including 27 years as a state trooper. Prior to his appointment as assistant
director in March 2007, Bingham served as chief of the Driver License Division.
He previously served as chief of Protective Services following his promotion to
major.
Bingham also has served DPS as assistant chief of the Driver License Division, assistant
chief of the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, planning and operations officer for
the Driver License Division, and commander of the Driver License Division’s Safety
Responsibility Unit. He also has served with the Highway Patrol Division as an assistant
post commander and patrol officer.
Bingham graduated with honors from Troy University in Montgomery with a bachelor’s
degree in criminal justice. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve in 2005, with
the rank of lieutenant colonel, following 33 years of honorable service. He and
his wife, Carolyn, reside in Prattville. They have two children, Joshua and Grace.
