Welcome

As the Chief of the Protective Services Division, I thank you for taking the time to visit our web site. It is my privilege to provide this information to you regarding our operations. Additionally, we have incorporated links to other sites that may be of interest to you.

The Protective Services Division is the sixth, and newest, division of the Alabama Department of Public Safety. The Division consists of the State Capitol Police Unit, the Executive Security Unit, and the Governor’s Mansion Security Detail. The Protective Services Division is comprised of some 50-plus arresting officers and civilian/support personnel and involves operations seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.

The creation of this division coincided with the State Capitol Police Department becoming a part of Public Safety. Prior to this consolidation, the Capitol Police had been a sub-unit of the Department of Finance. This consolidation and merger of these units was designed to increase efficiency and effectiveness of all personal and physical security missions required by the Department of Public Safety. Additionally, it was seen as an opportunity to enhance the overall services of the Department.

The success of our division is directly related to the caliber of employees who comprise it. The ability to coordinate with other DPS divisions, as well as other law enforcement and corporate agencies, is the key element of our effectiveness.
